If you've got the money to pay for it, or you have enough traffic for SFI, I'd see about attending and making an appointment with them to discuss 5089 (or 6830) interconnection. Based on what you've said above, I'd hazard a guess that this is now the "official" method. It's a shame, but it's not entirely surprising at this point.
