Prevention of customer confusion, mainly.
Where we control the CPE as a managed device, which is most of them,
we'll use a /31 (even on Mikrotiks - as DavidC says, you have to
configure it in a somewhat counter-intuitive way, but it works). If the
customer is going to install J Random router of their own, we'll use a
/30 as that's just easier for everyone involved.
