Sadly, "diverse routes" does not mean "diverse routers", and it doesn't preclude someone making a mistake when re-designing the network (as does periodically happen). One painful lesson of building networks is that it has proven unerringly advantageous to work hard toward not relying on any one carrier's resilience and/or advertised resilience at any point. If you're actively working to take the responsibility on board as soon as you can, you may hopefully do so before something like this happens. Good example: the Geo Networks double-cut of "diverse" dark fibre paths between what is now (mostly) MA2 & the two halves of MA1. The networks that survived without a total blackout at Reynolds House, were those that hadn't relied solely on Geo's "resilient dark fibre" claims, which were forfeit when human error allowed both paths to be physically cut. -- Tom
