The sad thing is that some (if not all) of the challenges that Charlie mentions
regarding working with Openreach in his 2014 presentation are still totally
relevant today.

Excel spreadsheets, onboarding for every product, horrible processes, SIN
documents, antiquated systems and no real solutions/pre-sale support. You have
to read all of the many documents and fully understand them before going back
to Openreach with exactly what you want to order.

At times it feels as if there are barriers put in place to prevent smaller
operators from unbundling exchanges, or at the very least that it is
discouraged.

I’d 100% agree with the comment about keeping a good account manager though,
you will definitely need them! If anything just so they can find you the right
person to speak with about a particular product/process.

Openreach

Yes, certainly interested to see how others have fared. In our own case it's
been an interesting experience establishing for AccessLocate / DFX / OSA / GEA.
Step one: find and never let go of a good account manager. Step two: acquire
patience of a saint as you'll need it for navigating the product docs (who
thinks it's a good idea to document key bits of info in a PDF and embed that
*inside* an Excel form??!!) Step three: be prepared to fill out lots of
forms in Excel. And so on..

Rich.

Just thinking about the recent thread, I wonder if there's be any interest in a
talk on the journey from zero to being a completely independent ISP using
openreach. (ie no wholesale layer).

I've been through this journey over the last 3 years consuming almost every
openreach product along the way, and it's quite an eye opener, even for those
who buy through wholesale today.
