Incidentally, the Zen Fritz!box (7530 in my case) does an excellent job of identifying interference faults, if you check the logging. It picked-up on the bad slave wiring in my new house, and also later told me that the continued sync drops were "possibly" as a result of PowerLine - they were. So, now I have three setup in a WiFi mesh and it is brilliant.

Given how good these boxes are, and how easy they are to use/mesh together, I can't even contemplate mucking about with Cisco VDSL firmwares and obtuse config lines while I'm not being paid to do so :D
