Here is, but a sample, of the documents that are available at the
National Archives of Ireland -the Registered Papers of the Chief
Secretary's Office. These few extracts concern people in County
Tyrone.

4 Aug. 1825
Petition of John DOUGLASS, Dungannon, Co. Tyrone, to Richard
Wellesley, 1st Marquis Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle,
requesting a free passage to the British states of America [Canada]
for himself and his family of 7. Remarks he is without adequate means
to make the journey on an independent basis and seeks an order from
the Lord Lieutenant to achieve his end. Also claims to have been an
active member of the yeomanry infantry of Dungannon ‘for many years.

23 Jul 1825
Petition of Patrick FERGUSON, Lisky, near Strabane, Co. Tyrone, to
Richard Wellesley, 1st Marquis Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin
Castle, requesting protection and assistance from local magistrates
following his part in the prosecution of local offenders. States he
acted as witness in the trial of Hugh HUSTON, Hugh KINKEAD and James
KINKEAD, who were convicted on a charge of ‘riot and assault’ and
confined to prison by the assistant barrister [Robert LINDSAY] and Sir
John James BURGOYNE, magistrate and provost of Strabane. As a direct
result of his appearance in court, he asserts, acquaintances of the
men convicted have threatened to retaliate; recalls on the 18 July
while working in the field he was approached by two men, one armed
with a pistol, the other a sword, having an ‘intent to kill or beat
him’. Also on market day, a cohort of the imprisoned men ‘McGINN’
stated publicly that should he come into contact with FERGUSON ‘he

14 May 1825
Petition of John MONTGOMERY, Mullycarnon [Mullycarnan], near
Dungannon, County Tyrone, to Richard Wellesley, 1st Marquis Wellesley,
Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, seeking further information on
assisted emigration to Canada. Explains that those wishing to depart,
himself, his wife and two brothers, are all less that 30 years of age.
He wishes to learn if it be advisable to proceed to Cork, with a view
to disembarkation. Mentions having made communication on the matter
with the Colonial Department, London, and getting a reply to say the
scheme of emigration to Canada was some time since concluded.
