John JOHNSTON Belle RAINEY I am looking for a marriage between the above couple, together with their respective baptisms or places of birth.
The following records have been searched: CI Clonoe 1812-1813 and 1818, CI Brackaville (Killyman Tullyniskan & Clonoe Parishes) Marriage Records too early, CI Donaghenry (Donaghendry) Armagh Diocese M 1802-1804 and 1810-1825 - No record of any marriage or baptisms. The first record I have are details of the baptism of John and Belle's daughter Sally (Sarah) on 18 April 1818/19 1st Stewartstown Presbyterian Church. John and Belle were living at 'Dernagh' at that time (PRONI Baptisms 1814-1871 Ref MIC/1/P48/1. There is another baptism on 1 August 1822 of James Johnston of John Johnston and Bell Rainey Deriaghy also in the 1st Stewartstown Presbyterian Church. On 4 April 1826 there is the baptism of a William Johnston born 20 March John Rainey ?Co Down. This is most probably another son of John and Belle. There is another record of a Hugh born 1833 with ? John and Belle as parents but this cannot be located. On 2 April 1834 there is another baptism in the same church of Arabella Johnston daughter of John of Blackwatertown. By 1842 John is working as a Bailiff for William Blacker who was appointed in 1831 to manage the Dungannon Royal School Lands. (Plantation - Royal Schools ~ 1614.) John had purchased land in Derrytresk and eventually constructed a home there.
