Hello Listers Everyone seems to be pretty quiet these days, so now seems as good a time as any, for a Roll Call or to Ask your Research Questions.
I would like to ask everyone to participated in a roll call, even if you have before. There are new subscribers joining all the time, and it is possible, that others are not aware of your research interests. A couple Guidelines for a successful post & possible response. - Please have the 'subject line' reflect what you are posting. Sometimes those who receive lots of mail will only scan subject lines and not read the whole email. Choose subject matter that relates to your message. Note: if you have too many surnames and locations to list in the subject line, I suggest you place the 2 main ones and the rest of the names / locations / dates, in the body of the message. example Subject line for a Roll Call- LOVE Donagheady DUNN Leckpatrick Tyr. example Subject line about a Question- RC Parish LISSAN, Available Records? - Please Capitalize SURNAMES only. - Please begin your own thread /message. When posting your surnames in the roll call, or asking questions, don't tag onto a previously sent email. Start your own thread/message/subject. It is easier to spot a particular name or location in the "digest" mode of receiving emails, as opposed to never finding it, because it is hidden in unrelated messages. This also helps enhance your messages, when others search the archives. - If you should click "Reply To", please be sure to change the subject line, and then 'Edit' (delete) the words & sentences of the previous email, which have nothing to do with your post. Also check that it is addressed correctly. All emails to the list should be addressed to [email protected] - It is helpful to others, who want to help you, to know which resources you have already utilized. This can save what can be, an extraordinary amount of time. It can be as simple as saying; Marriage located in 'such and such parish records' , or, Marriage found Online at https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/ Found in 1901 census at 'such and such' location. One last thing that helps us, to help you, is to know the "spelling variations" of the surname you seek. We know the possible spellings of our own ancestors. As an example for myself - DUNN, DUNNE, DUN & DONN yet, I'm sure I do not know all the 'McELHONE' or M'CREEGHAN variations. When we are aware it can increase the chances of people being able to help you. This is important for me when I do look ups for others in some of the resources I have.
