Campbell Sarah bapt 20 Apr 1854 Sponsor Margaret Campbell

George is my great grandfather. He came to Australia in the late 1870's and
married in 1882. Family story is that he left Ireland 'in a hurry'
following an incident involving tarring and feathering of the bailiff. No
likely shipping records have been found. He possibly came out at a similar
time or shortly after some of his McGahan cousins who also settled in the
Warwick district, Queensland. George consistently gave 1849 as his year
of birth on all documents in Australia with birthplace Tullyreavy, Tyrone.
A baptism record for this date has not been found - ? he is the George born
1839 or did this older brother die before 1849. Most researchers have taken
this line but I am tending towards him being the 1839 birth.

I have found a death for Sarah registered Pomeroy, Cookstown. Death 3 Oct
1878 at Corneany with informant Patrick McGaughan occupier. Sarah, 65
years, wife of a labourer.

I have not found a likely death for Hugh at this stage - ones I found were
bachelors or had other conflicting details that did not fit. Hugh is
listed on Griffiths Valuation holding lease at Tullyodonnell. The
Valuation Revision books show Hugh Campbell as the leaseholder up until 1882
when it transferred to a Hugh McElhatton.

I have not found any records other than baptism for George Campbell's other
siblings.

Would love to hear from anyone who may have any connections or knowledge of
this family/area to find out more about Hugh Campbell and his family. He is
our brick wall.
