Hello All Following are some genealogy news items that I have come across. Please everyone, feel free to post anything you should discover, including any favorite new links you have found! The more, the merrier.
The RCB's Library (Representative Church Body) digital access to the 'Church of Ireland Gazette 1856-2010, will remain free online until at least 2033. The Church of Ireland Gazette, was formerly known as "The Irish Ecclesiasticl Gazette". https://bit.ly/3y0WriE Irish Folklore - I quote from the site; "folklore.ie is a living online archive centered on the folklore collection work of Michael Fortune and is an ideal entry point into living superstitions, beliefs and customs." from throughout Ireland. http://folklore.ie/Home.html Compare the temperatures of where you live, to your ancestors home in Ulster. Weather Spark lets you compare and contrast the weather and climate between any two to four cities worldwide. https://weatherspark.com/compare Did your ancestors arrive in Nova Scotia, Canada? If so, Nova Scotia Archives has a photographic collection of digitized images. There are 18 categories, such as agriculture, people, army, navy, places, and clippings, in the navigation menu, and the photos can be searched by keyword. In the people category, there are more than 2,000 images, most of them portraits. https://archives.novascotia.ca/virtual/ Ontario Ancestors’ virtual presentations include; (All, of which, are open to the public.) Thursday, December 9 – 7:00 p.m. Eastern time Ireland SIG Surviving The Famine: Tracing the Irish Famine Generation in Ontario by representatives of the Canada Ireland Foundation https://bit.ly/3IvBCB0 The PRONI is to release the Belfast poor relief application indexes online. The index books, which cover periods of 3 months at a time, are for applications made for indoor relief, i.e. into the workhouse, and are cataloged under BG/7/GK/1-107. Whilst the admission registers themselves are not going online, being able to research the indexes through the online catalog is still going to be massive for poor law research of the city. The first batch will be out towards the end of this month. The PRONI is also shifting to a six weeks in advance booking system, to enable better acess for those traveling from afar. Something we can look forward to is the 100th anniversary of PRONI, which they will be celebrating in both 2023 and 2024 - PRONI was created in June 1923, but they did not actually open the doors to the public until March 1924.
