Thats odd, the MBR for a dual boot? I do not usually don't do it that way.

Its safer to use dd and copy the /boot directory into a file then move
that file to the windows partition and configure your boot.ini file to
have NTLDR load it. Putting it resident in the MBR can lead to
nonworking Windows XP and Windows 2003 server installations. You
should also keep the leading meg or so of the hard drive free.

Lilo should have a configuration file, which may be resident in boot
(I don't remember at the moment). So you would update the file then
you would run dd.

Changing the Lilo file can be confusing for folks new to it. Be sure
to read up on it.

You can find out more by doing a search with google. Try "dd Windows
XP linux " etc.
