Honestly, it's not that hard of a test.
I realize you did not intend this to sound condescending, but certainly this could be a discouraging statement to anyone who has had difficulty with the exam or has needed to study for it.
As to the difficulty of the exam, I have found that students tend to do as well on the GREs as they did on the SATs, given similar levels of effort and preparation beforehand.
