Hmm, I thought about using pre-up, but it would be too early, as the
link type can't be set until the interface is 'up'. However, using 'up
xxxtool bla bla bla' seems to work.
That was true only for some (OK, most) drivers and only with the old
interface mii-tool uses. Any driver that supports ethtool (should be all
of them not marked obsolete) should let you set device parameters when the
device is down.
