Hi all,
The campus radio station, WMUC, broadcasts on 88.1FM and over the
Internet. Our current system admin will be graduating at the end of this
semester, and we're looking for someone to help administer our Linux
servers.
The station currently runs three servers to host the website and encode
live MP3 streams (using liveice and icecast). WMUC's General Manager and
Operations Manager can restart the servers, etc., if necessary, but we're
in need of someone to handle the general upkeep of the systems. Beyond
maintenance, we're also looking for someone who has the desire to help us
improve our current setup - up the audio quality, offer an Ogg stream, you
name it. You've probably heard about the issues with WYPR 88.1 out of
Baltimore - we're still on air, but the Internet broadcast is very
important to the station and we'd like your help.
WMUC is one of the largest organizations on campus, with a staff of over
100 people. While being our sysadmin _would_ look great on a resume,
that's not the primary benefit. This is where I add a personal note: Two
years ago (almost to the day!) a job posting nearly identical to the one
above went up on the UMLUG website*. I responded, and that was how I
first got involved at WMUC. Looking back, working at the station has
been one of the most enjoyable and enriching aspects of my college career.
If you know your way around /, enjoy music and meeting interesting
people, e-mail me at [EMAIL PROTECTED]
If you're still skeptical, want to see what the station's all about, or
you're just interested in radio, come by the WMUC Open House! It's
Monday, Feb. 5, and Tuesday, Feb 6th, at 7 PM. The station is in room
3130, South Campus Diner (go in the doors on either side of the dining hall
entrance and up the stairwell; there will be signs.) For more information,
check out the announcement at http://wmucradio.com/node/79.
