Daniel,

Given the information you've posted here, it's pretty hard to figure
out what's going on.  What kind of alert system are you trying to setup
- what are the alerts you're trying to generate and where are they
being sent (email, pagers, etc.).  Why are you doing this on a win98
laptop?  Does the laptop have to run win98?  Taking an absolute
stab-in-the-dark at your problem, my guess is that you're running a
program that is too new relative to your (fairly old) operating system,
and there is some function that doesn't yet exist in the win98 win32
libraries.  You may find that this project is easier to accomplish with
different software rather then getting what you have working, but if
you answer some of my questions above, myself or others on the list
might be able to better help you.
