Hmm, to me slack seems totally suitable for grownups or maybe I'm not qualified to say ... it's been suggested :)
Btw slackbuilds.org has a pgplot script. Their scripts are very good and endorsed by the BDFL. I almost never have to install anything anymore that they haven't already figured out.
