Hi Stefan, and thanks for your initiative! In general, this doesn't sound like a bad idea, at least for the DOS bootdisk which seems to be a bit outdated.

AFAIK the problem does not (only) lie in the format.com, but also in parted, i.e. the Linux part. As long as this is not fixed, your solution won't work because the partition is created with a wrong geometry. Apart from that, your idea sounds good.
