An easy solution is to use the mapdrive.pl and change the times of reconnections as well as the seconds between the tries.

It seems to happen mostly with XP, and mostly with fast (SMP or hyperthreading) systems. Shad's workaround is to use a script to keep retrying the Z: mount until it works.
