I bumped into this one as well. It surfaced after I included a local GPO in my build.
I had left the printing items in the GPO on their default (presumably allow) settings. I had to go back and modify the local GPO to actively disable point and print restrictions and to disable the prevent adding printers options. The two items were preventing normal users from adding printers. Everything worked great after that. --- Begin Message ---I have had a terrible day today, attempting to get XP SP1 clients to allow normal domain users to connect to printers. The setup is as follows. Samba server running as the Domain Controller (2.2.8a) Win2000 server, sharing the printers at this point, will probably change to samba server some time in the future. (I wish I had time) and XP SP1 Clients. Now when I attempt to add the printer as a Domain User, it says I don't have enough privileges to connect the printer to the computer. Does anybody know how to solve this problem properly (no workarounds). I liked the way NT4 and 2k allowed users to map network printers, and I want that ability back. Turning on point and print did not help. Any help appreciated.
