You need to set the permissions on the printer (at the print server), allowing the
users you want the right to manage printers.that should work, but there is a setting
in group policy (although the exact place eludes my memory)that lets you forbid the
adding & removing of printers. If the permissions setting fails to cure the problem
you may need to check that setting. The default is to allow, so if you have not
changed it, & I am guessing you set things up, you should not need to worry

Subject: [Unattended] Adding Network Printers to XP clients

I have had a terrible day today, attempting to get XP SP1 clients to allow
normal domain users to connect to printers.

The setup is as follows.

Samba server running as the Domain Controller (2.2.8a)
Win2000 server, sharing the printers at this point, will probably change to
samba server some time in the future. (I wish I had time)

and XP SP1 Clients.

Now when I attempt to add the printer as a Domain User, it says I don't have
enough privileges to connect the printer to the computer. Does anybody know
how to solve this problem properly (no workarounds).

I liked the way NT4 and 2k allowed users to map network printers, and I want
that ability back. Turning on point and print did not help.

Any help appreciated.

Russell Smith.
