Inspired by Unattended's well deserved success, I have finally started a 'Settings Management' project I've been thinking about for years. It's called Setman, http://setman.sourceforge.net.

i think this would be quite useful.

setman, plus unattended, plus an automated software distribution utility (e.g. for installing software on multiple workstations automatically over the network) would add up to a great open source desktop management system.

i've found that existing software distribution packages are too tightly integrated with MS-only tools like sql server and active directory. i'm wondering how hard it would be to write a win2k system service that automates installs without relying so heavily on the entire ms infrastructure.
