I made an assumption when I setup my winxpoem repository. Our company
deploys IBM NetVista's and IBM Intellistations exclusively to end users.
So, I copied the XP i386 directory from one of the IBM PC's to the network
and use this as my winxpoem os install point. My assumption was that as
long as I entered in the XP serial number that is located on the side of one
of the IBM PC's, I would have no problem setting up unattended to take care
of these machines.

Today I was testing out the XP install on VMWare when I was greeted with an
error during the unattended install of Windows XP. It read, "Error: The
Product ID you entered is not valid."! *groan* So my question is this, am
I to assume that IBM has different oem "versions" (for lack of a better
word) of Windows XP for the different machines that they use?

The idea here is that we purchased copies of XP pre loaded (as if we had a
choice!) on these machines and I thought we could get away with using
unattended as long as I used the serial number on the machine. So where do
I go from here?

If this doesn't work I am thinking of just upgrading our company to some
sort of site license for Windows XP Pro. Any suggestions as to what flavor
of license I should go for? We only have less than 100 desktops that we
deploy. As we add more users, we would like to add more licenses... etc.
When you have a site license do you have a separate serial number for each
PC that you need to keep track of? Or do you get a single serial number
that you use for all installs? Kind of like our MS Office license?

Please let me know your thoughts! This is a real pain in the arse!

Michael
