I'd like to run a daemon/ask a web service regularly if newer versions of applications I provide in my unattended Windows installation are available.
have you looked at http://www.fileflash.com or http://www.betanews.com ?
These web sites provide information and you can subscribe to be informed via email or configure a watchlist.
