I found that for unattended, FreeDOS is... Icky.
The fdisk and format commands don't work right. Even after an unconditional format, there are errors reading the disk. As soon as I saw this, I made a blank boot floppy with Windows 95 SR2 files on it, rebuilt the floppy images, and told unattended to use the Windows 95 format command. I think I still use the freedos FDISK though.
Since I have done that, I have had no problems with the dos portion of the setup.

yet again I answer myself :))
so if anyone has that error, it's enough to put a Windows 98 boot
floppy, and run:
fdisk /mbr
why Unattended (on top of FreeDOS then) can't do it properly, remains a
mystery.
