I came along this link, but haven't tried it myself:

This approach is using squid and forces it route specific requests through a local script that ignores the no-cache pragmas.

However, you will need to tweak the URL-pattern from time to time, because different versions of Windows Update seem to change them. Also, I'm not sure of the next step toward evil Trusted Computing (the Genuine Check tool that is required by WU v6) is effecting this trick.
