Just a follow up with some more information:

Changing from "Enhanced" (PATA and SATA both enabled) to "Legacy" (Only PATA
enabled) in the BIOS did no good. Neither did the newest BIOS from Intel.

The 4.6 Linux boot disk seems to work fine. It's the 4.7pre from CVS that
does not.

My guess is that the updated parted/format is not correctly setting up the
MBR in the latest CVS snapshot?
