Ok, so I don’t know that much about MBRs/BPBs but from looking at the problem, something is missing/wrong with the MBR/BPB because the system will not boot from the hard drive.

Can anyone please tell me what type of MBR and BPB unattended writes to the hard drive?

After mounting the drive after unattended runs, all the files are present for a winxp bootloader, but when I write one to the disk I get the “NTLDR Is Missing” error message upon reboot, which is crazy because I can see the file is there on the hard drive when I mount it.

I googled NTLDR is Missing and tried to sys c: the drive with a dos disk and then re-run unattended, but it didn’t work.

If someone can tell me what kind of MBR/BPB unattended writes then I think at least that will be a starting point to look into.

We are having the same issue with the IBM T60 series and some of the T43’s. We switched to the DOS boot CD for the T43’s but the T60 will not load the NIC on the DOS cd so it won’t work either way. Tried updating the DOS nic but no success there either.

One work around I have found is this: After the initial copy where the system just sits there make a ghost back up of the system and then restore the backup. Some “magic” in ghost causes this to kick start the process and it continues to build the laptop as normal.

I have posted several comments on the t43 issues I had but I never got it resolved. Hopefully we can work on this issue and find a final resolution once and for all for the new IBM laptops Lenovo is rolling out.

I just got a new IBM Thinkpad X60 and I can’t get it to work L

I can get as far as getting dosemu to run and do the initial copy of the setup files, but after reboot it just sits there.

I have checked the MBR with “ms-sys” and I get back x86 boot loader, unknown type.

I have tried rewriting a win2k/xp bootloader to the MBR and tried chainloading from my grub boot cd, no dice.

If I install from a windows cd it goes just fine…

When using a cd to install windows I can check the MBR and I get back Microsoft 2000/XP/2000 boot loader…

Anyone have a X60 working with unattended or know what is going on?

I have tried putting the sata controller in compatibility mode, disabling the “pre-desktop” environment (restore partition) and disabling the security chip.
