This is the workaround I have used on Thinkpads: Use a Windows XP CD with sp2 integrated, start install, use FAT as filesystem. I used 20000 as size of partition. Let it do its thing until the machine restarts and flip in a Knoppix cd before it boots up. mount /dev/sda1 somewhere and delete boot.ini and the windows directory. Then use Unattended CD and do not touch partiton. skip format also :-) After searching and reading the LKML abit, at last there seem to be a growing consensus that the kernel should report the same geometry as BIOS does, instead of just pulling some bogus values out of the ass. I hope this problem will go away soon, .. ..so maybe we should pester some of the kernel developers to speed up the process? :-D > Or, you could try my setup which is described here: > http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=19294502 The whole thread is more readable here: http://www.mail-archive.com/unattended-devel%40lists.sourceforge.net/msg00713.html > > Again, we need a solution to log the details of the unattended setup > process and of the pc if it comes to problems ... Yes, write access, and for more than this reason :-) It would be nice to save a working HD setup (like the one made by my workaround above) and just have a option to smack it back to disk on the next install on similar hardware. The linux NTFS tools is also making progress these days, so disk imaging would be a great extension to the unattended project! Im just asuming theres more people like me that get a pile with similar hardware in for configuration. :-) -- mvh Nils Olav Fossum IT-Kontoret Midtre Gauldal Kommune ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys.
