Hello everyone,

I've just found out about unattended and have spent a good half of my
work day reading through the guides, documentation, and some of the list
archives. We've stopped using RIS at our site a while ago as it is quite
broken at the moment, and I have been looking for a good and flexible
(and of course free) alternative that is not image-based (oh I'm so
tired of Ghost images everywhere).

My biggest pet peeve with windows deployment is the user experience
tweaking. For example adjusting the folder views, start menu style,
internet explorer settings, desktop icons, and etc... I notice that the
winxpsp2-notips.pl
<http://unattended.cvs.sourceforge.net/unattended/unattended/install/bin
/winxpsp2-notips.pl?rev=HEAD&view=auto> script is a great start to
having the solution that I desire.

However, the windows registry is an enormous beast. Does anyone have any
advice as to where I can turn to in order to figure out where all these
useful windows settings are stored in the registry? For example, where
can I find out how to change the "Hidden files and folders" setting, or
enable "Restore previous folder windows at logon," and etc... Better
yet, if there is such a thing out there as a "call sniffing" tool
(imagine changing an option in a program and having a debug screen tell
you that a registry change happened and what it was) then I would love
to learn about it.

Thanks!
