OK, Nancy. Now maybe we need to define "intellectual experiences"---   :-)
 I am thinking it doesn't mean 'schooling'...just learning  experiences that 
consume us and make us want to learn more...to  understand. A rich 
intellectual life happens for many of us outside of a school  building. It 
makes me sad, 
as I read everyone's posts, how few of us had those  types of experiences in 
elementary or high school settings. It seems to be in  college, or on the job.
