I have been catching up on emails from the past few days. I got snowed in on April 1st. Someone played a snowflakey joke. There is a thread that keeps running through our discussions. Learning is a social act. We learn best when we are engaged, interested and with others. Many of us are here to share and learn. I know I have the ability "to read" To Understand. But, reading through this listserv engages our thoughts, connects us to our experiences, questions our wonderings and gets us sharing our interpretations. This is fundamental to understanding. We are learners in much the same way our students are. When I taught nonfiction and procedural reading and writing I brought in all the books I read to learn how to do things. We have many projects going on in my classroom. I show the kids where I go to find the answers and to learn. I have also witnessed the power of kids talk. They are amazing.
