I can see why they can't keep the book stocked. It is like nothing else! I
am reading it for the second time and see so much I missed the first time.
I have been working with the comprehensions strategies with my Kindergarten
children for a couple of years. I thought I was doing a pretty good job
until I read this book. Now with the simple addition of "How did that help
you
understand the story?" I just can't believe how much deeper the thinking is.

This week we started a "Conversation Circle". We all sat in a circle and
had a conversation. We were talking about pets this week so the first day,
to
introduce the idea, we just talked about dogs. (They all have background
knowledge about dogs.) One child said whatever he wanted on the topic of
"dogs", then, "Who wants to comment?" and called on the next child. We went
on
that way, with each child calling on another child until we ran out of time.
The next day, I read I Will Always Love You (about a child whose dog died),
and we had a conversation about the book using the same format. The next day
we had a conversation about the book The Dog Who Had Kittens. What great
conversations! I LOVE this time of year because we all know each other so
well
and we have had so many experiences together. Jane in SC :-)
