Here I go with the big picture again. Western culture seems to be more product orientated, more linear, asking for a product. Other cultures are circular, never ending, always in motion, processing. In so many ways I see teachers and education contributing to the frustration and confusion with kids that are not linear. We expect the kids to fit the curriculum, not the curriculum to fit the kids. By working with process we are able to differentiate our instruction. We model inquiry and support it with the kids. All too often I see a narrow view of "rigor" and kids checking out. It is also about power and who is belongs to in the classroom. I believe the professionals here share the power and the learning process with their students. We see the power within them. We encourage empowerment.
