So funny that this conversation is happening right now!  I am part of the
committee which is rewriting our literacy curriculum, and as one of our
resources, we are using Ellin's list of What's Essential.  Just two days ago,
we were reviewing the list and someone asked "What is anaphora?".  We looked it
up in a dictionary - but the explanation didn't help us understand why it would
be a text hurdle, as Ellin calls it.
Thanks to page 183 and to Jennifer - I have an answer for my committee!
So, Jan, you're not at all ignorant.... the entire committee had never heard of
it!  (Hey - in this sentence, I think "never heard of it" is an example of
anaphora......)
:)  Happy reading!
Dana

Thank you, Jennifer!  I did skip to page 183.  I'm pleased that I figured out
the word with the help of my trusty dictionary.

Now I'm curious if any of you had ever heard this word before you read To
Understand?  Made me wonder how ignorant I am about reading.
Jan
