It is indeed, but beyond the Fontmatrix purpose. I think I"ll crash soon". Generally the error "Server claimed fonts existed in the font list, but when I asked for it, there was nothing" means that you have a fonts.dir file which has an entry that points to a font file that does not exist (or is not readable to the font server/X server). The solution is generally to remake your fonts.dir files, or reprotect your font files (and any directories leading up to them) so that your font server has access to them. ff is supposed to print out the name of the font (not the font file name, but the name as presented by xlsfonts) to help you track the error down. These are not > only signs fonts, but also character fonts. Consider that such fonts can’t be normally used. In fact most programs won’t let you access these un-mapped (means they’re not referenced in Unicode charmap) glyphs. You can check the charmaps present or computed for a font in the sub-header of the "Informations" tab. FYI, Scribus will even discard fonts which have not a Unicode charmap, I don’t know for OOo - will check later. > Another strange issue I have is with Arial: this font renders correctly on > Fontmatrix but in Openoffice is rendered as "Planet X" font.
