Greetings to all once more, In preparing to install Fontmatrix, of course I read all of the documentation that was included with special attention to the installation instructions for Debian/Ubuntu. A couple of questions have come to my mind that I would like to get answered (as far as possible) prior to attempting installation.
First of all, I would like to make a comment. Examining the text files, I noted that they are all dated 5/21/16, almost one year ago. Given the inexorable progress being made with almost all the component software that comprises Linux (and other operating systems too, I'm sure. I'm just not as intimate with them any longer), shouldn't the documentation, especially the installation directions be reviewed and their information updated? I am not being critical, I am just pointing out that this has the potential to be a source of confusion and frustration for end users who are not as knowledgeable (and I know Ubuntu has a few of them having perused the official (as well as offensive) help forum). As I did a fair amount of technical writing in the course of my work, I will volunteer my services to do the 'heavy lifting' portion of updating the install files provided I may count on the assistance of some/all of you advising me. Also, please be advised that I am also working on a project creating a user's guide for an Android e-book reader, so I will have to share my time equally between Fontmatrix's needs, the e-book reader and my own, personal projects (which I am rapidly trying to reduce to have more time to apply to other projects). Moving along now to the questions I have. First, I have been unable to find any discernible reference to which version of Fontmatrix I have downloaded. In the ToDo documentation, I have seen references to 0.2 and to 0.3. In examining the desktop file in my text editor, it looks like it might be referenced as 1.0, but all of this is just supposition on my part. So would someone please fill in the FNG about which version is currently being distributed? As to the second question: Never mind. I had some concerns about Fontmatrix's dependencies, but I was able to reason out the answer for myself. Happy days all!
