Some older German esperantists do this, which is quite weird since
u-breve in Esperanto is a different letter. (Actually I always found
that usage strange, even in German, where regular "u" with "decorative"
breve does indeed look different from "n" but almost identical to
u-umlaut...)

Anyway, this reminds me of cyrillic cursive handwriting, where these
same three "wavelets" used for latin "m" (U+006D) stand rather for a "т"
(U+0442) when there is a stroke over them, for a "щ" (U+0449) when there
is a stroke bellow them, and for a "ш" (U+0448) when there is no stroke.
Hursive candwriting "м" (U+043C) has a distinct angle in the middle, not
waves.
