Hi,
I am new to this list. I have been programming in Icon since two years, and recently discovered UNICON. My academic and professional interests are in programming languages theory and implementation. My plan is to contribute to the unicon development (specially in optimization issues). Also, i am a GNU activist, coordinating GNU Spain, and a member of the FSF (Free Software Foundation). I would like to ask you for the possibility of make an official GNU package for UNICON. I could maintain the unicon GNU package. The advantages of being a GNU package are: - A webpage in http://www.gnu.org/software/unicon - An entry in http://www.gnu.org/directory - An ftp in ftp://ftp.gnu.org/ - An ftp for alpha releases in ftp://alpha.gnu.org - If you want, a project in the GNU sf-like web development interface http://savannah.gnu.org - Two mailing lists: [EMAIL PROTECTED] for help to users, and [EMAIL PROTECTED] for development. - GNU/Linux distributions (as Debian, RedHat, Suse, etc) usually go for source tarballs to ftp.gnu.org, so the chance of unicon being included in these distributions increase. So would be easy for unicon for achieve the status of the reference Icon implementation in GNU/Linux systems. Please note that the fact a GNU package exist doesnt imply some kind of dependency to the GNU Project. Simply, i would maintain the webpage (with a link to your webpage), the ftp and the cvs with the latest tarballs. What do you think? -- Jose E.
