Hi All,

I am new to the list and the group. I took my first steps into event
driven GUI/graphics programming with Icon several years ago, there is
evidence in the form of a teen spirited "TEST!!!" post on
comp.lang.icon for maximum embarrassment now.

>From the years of experience I have had since those early days of
messing around with Icon, I've not found a language that was as rapid
and easy to program in. With the features now present in Unicon I
really think the programming community at large is missing out on a
great language, and want to do what I can to promote its use -
especially to young people just starting out. When you can have a
useful graphical program running within ten lines of easily read
source you know you are dealing with a winning language.

Towards this end I recently contacted Éric Lévénez who maintains a
wonderful diagram of programming language history, a kind of family
tree of inherited language constructs. He kindly agreed to update his
site content immediately to display Unicon (he already had Icon
down!). To take a look for the sake of nostalgia or gaining new found
respect for the many influences that have shaped modern scripting
languages check out http://www.levenez.com/lang/

Happy coding,
Matt.
