My environment is very similar to yours.
I did not understand the multiple Unicon version problem.
By luck, my process avoids the problem.
I distribute the mKE system on Windows/Linux/Mac
with user commands located in $KEHOME/bin. I use
cp icont iconx $KEHOME/bin
so that my users do not have to install Unicon.
