I have a 73conv. Had the same problem. I replaced about seven years
ago with the same SS& felt channel along with new side windows and
salon. It rotted out again. I now live in florida and just finished
one side with the plastic (PVC) made by beckson. It is not easy, the
channel is not quite the same dim. And you need to make a fixture to
drill and counter sink the screw holes. Which means you need to have
a  or access to a drill press. If you would like I could send a couple
of pictures of what it looks like. I used black. I will be doing the
other side next weekend when I turn the boat around. LOL
