So, my 1984 Uniflite came with a Datamarine System 3000, a Digital Depth Sounder and Remote Display (mod. 3030). I believe it was installed as original equipment. It is the “remote display”, model 3030, that I am concerned about. My problem is that the remote does not work. It hasn’t worked since before I owned the boat. The system 3000 must be ON for the remote to work. But, when I turn it ON (it is down at the downstation) the remote only shows the word, “METERS”, even though the 3000 is set to “feet”. It seems that the 3030 (the remote) display has power, but no data. On the back of the 3000, there are two “remote display” connectors. Each has three pins. Unfortunately, the manual for the 3000 doesn’t say which pin is used for which purpose. It only indicates that the “remote data is serial data of 16 bits in length and that the alarm output is 12 volts, 300 ma. It does not indicate which pin is the data connection, the power, or… It doesn’t matter which of the two connectors are used the result is the same. The 3030 remote display is mounted in the fly bridge dash panel in a location that is very difficult to reach (or even see!), so I have yet to check that end. Maybe it is simply a missing ground (?). But, since the display does display something when the system is on, I am concerned that it is something more involved.
Has anyone had any experience with this system? Are there any suggestions as to how to trouble shoot the remote? I am trying to contact Datamarine International, Inc. for advice, but I have not received anything yet.
