CG documentation has nothing to do with state sales/use tax.  I would think one
would pay the tax of the state where the vessel was purchased.  Here in
California, if there is a broker involved in the purchase, that broker is
required to inform the state and/or arrange the payment. (BUT) Maybe they use
the state which the boat has listed as its hailing port.  My 42' is documented
as being out of San Francisco, CA.  I paid the tax.  Later a friend in
Washington told me that if I take the boat there as I planned that Washington
would tax me, again!  That is if I could not show proof of taxes paid in
California.  I wrote to the Board of Equalization's and they sent me proof of
payment.

Was there any doubt that California is circling the drain?  We can all
watch while it goes down the tubes.  Very sadly, the nation as a whole
seems to be using California as a model for it's economy.  Sorry for
your trouble fellas, dealing with the government can turn anyone into
an anarchist.
