Hi, No mater what kind of boat you have, the inverter needs to be as close to the battery as possible. It makes no difference how far the 120V is away from the inverter. Make sure you use the "correct" size wires from the batt to the inverter and they should be "directly" from the batt and not thru the circuit panel for 12V power for the inverter. Capt. Perry
