Well it sounds like you answered your own question. "why do I have
two batteries, one for each engine.".........because as you've already
learned sometimes batteries die. Lets examine it. You decide to go
with one battery for starting both engines. You've had a lovely day
cruising to your private little cove, dropped anchor, poured an adult
beverage. After a nice dinner of fresh crab and clams (yummy) you
turn in for the night with dreams of tomorrows short run to your next
private cove. You get that great night sleep that you can only get on
the water. You wake refeshed have a cup of coffee and a light
breakfast and prepare to make way. You go to the ignition and turn
the key for your port engine and...........nothing happens. Unfazed
you say to your self and your nervous guests "well that's not good but
It is only a short run we will just go on with the starboard engine
and I'll figure it out later." You turn the starboard ignition key
and........well again nothin happens. Dead battery. Trip ruined. Had
you have had 2 batteries one for each engine as God intended the
chances of both failing at the same time is VERY slim. You would just
start the engine with the good battery once it is running you start
the other. Halleluah trip saved!!
