Here's an idea you might like. We added two shelves to the forward stateroom of our 41YF - aka stretch 36DC.
I had a marine carpenter build shelves that run fore and aft. They are above and parallel to the standard shelves on both sides. The bottoms of the new shelves are flush with the corner where the raised overhead meets the walkaround side and fore decks. The aft end of the shelves attaches to the aft bulk head of the stateroom. We matched the front fascia to the ones on the originals below. We had these new shelves made from teak plywood and kept them small enough to fit one-half sheet to save money but you could make them larger.
