Hello all, I have a 1970 23 foot sportfisher with OMC electric shift and have been collecting spare outdrives and parts for a while. At some point and time I would like to repower to a more modern drive with parts that are easier to find. The transom on this boat is only about 1/4 inch thick not much meat to hang a drive on. My question to all you engineer minded people, is it possible to fill in the hole from the OMC and fabricate a set of plates to sandwich the transom between. I envision some gussets welded to the inside plate to bolt to the stringers to transfer the load and torque from the new drive, kind of like the mounts on the intermediate now.Has anyone attempted this and did it work. I would love to hear any feed back, good or bad. This is something I am just thinking about but want to look at all options. I know it is probably more practical to just get another boat with the drive I want , but this is a cool, well built boat.
