there are soooo...many variables and possibilities. are you doing some of the
work yourself, having it done.. how much money do you plan on spending...
I installed a single cummins in my 27 express and get about 2.5gph at 9 knots
and 1400rpm...slightly above hull speed. cant quite figure out " planning "
speed as the rise is so gradual it simply doesn't climb on plane like a small
ski boat..my top speed is 20+ at 2500 rpm
when I repowered my sailboat ( 78ft) and 85,000 lbs I got a constant 1.4 gph at
1400 at 7.2 knots with a single ford lehman 120, 3:1 gears and a 28" prop...
if you are mechanically inclined, buy two used cummins 6bt from wrecked dodges,
preferably 1994 to 1997 12valves with " P " injection pump, or (1992 and 93
will do, VE pump ) completely mechanical injection, as long as they have under
200,000 miles you're good as you still have 1/2 life left and marinize the
engines, bowman in england makes manifolds, the bell housings can be found in
wrecking yards... I believe someone here makes an adapter for the stock dodge
bell housing to hurth gearbox...
of course the simplest is to simply buy two new engines and go that route....
stay away from the cummins 4bt, great engines but very noisy ( vibration)...and
realistically a bit small for your application even at 250 hp each in marine
form.

Subject: [UnifliteWorld] 36' DC Repower semi trawler

Looking to buy 36' DC and repower with small diesels for inland
cruising 90% of the time at 8 mph but want to make plane for
emergency. Does anyone know what minimum planing speed is? With what
engines, rpm, trans. ratios, prop size do you have. Anyone with
feedback on cruising this model at 8 mph does it roll or pitch too
much? My calculations show the need for 40 bhp to maintain 8 mph and
110 bhp to make 11. Lose valuations after that because I don't know
minimum planing speed for this hull.
