Mine were bronze through bolts with tapered, countersunk straight slot
screwdriver heads on the outside.  Same as the strut bolts, only smaller.  1970
27 Express Cruiser.  I had to move my shaft log a fraction to relive some
tension that was making it really hard to align the shaft.  Common problem
according to David Pascoe, even on new boats.  Perhaps when the strut broke in
half and I replaced it a few years ago the new one I got from Sea Cure didn't
line up exactly the same as the old one.  I found two long cracks in the shaft
log at the weld while I was moving it.  The only thing keeping the water out
was the sealing material.  The things we wish we didn't know.

I've been re-wireing my bonding system on my'72 SaltyDog, twin 318
inboards. The boat is in the water. While cleaning the nuts inside the shaft
log, many are loose and spinning with the bolts. Does anyone know if these are
studs threaded into the shaft log or thru bolts. if they were studs could I
replace them from the inside? Thanks
