What about epoxy saturation? That was the method  that I used on my
exterior teak and mahogany and then but five or six coats of varnish
and it looks great . I have also been told that if you scuff your
varnish and apply a new coat before it starts to deteriorate you will
not have to strip all the way down. The epoxy not only soaks deep in
the grain and protects the wood but helps hold it together.
